Changing the engine air filter on a Toyota Land Cruiser is a straightforward maintenance task that does not require special tools. The air cleaner housing is generally a round metal canister located on the driver's side of the engine bay.
Steps to Change the Air Filter:
Locate the Air Cleaner:
Open the bonnet and identify the large cylindrical air cleaner housing, usually situated on the driver's side of the engine bay.
Unclip the Housing:
Locate the metal clips around the perimeter of the air filter housing lid (usually 3 to 4 tension clips). Snap these clips off to release the cover.
Remove Old Filter:
Carefully lift the cover off and pull out the old air filter element.
Clean the Housing:
Before inserting the new filter, wipe away any dust, leaves, or debris from inside the housing, or use a vacuum cleaner to remove loose dirt.
Install New Filter:
Insert the new air filter element into the housing, ensuring it is seated properly.
Secure the Lid:
Replace the top cover and secure it by reattaching the clips. Ensure the clips are firmly fastened to prevent unfiltered air from entering the engine.
Key Tips:
Part Number:
Always use the correct part number whether a Toyota Genuine or Quality Aftermarket part for accurate fitment.
Check Intake Hose:
Check the air intake hose for cracks or perishability, as this can allow unfiltered air to bypass the air filter and enter the engine.
Filter Type:
Ensure you are using the correct dry-type paper element filter.
Note: The above steps are for the main engine air filter. If you are also looking for the cabin filter, that is a separate component and not applicable to this model.
